Romanian society where to?
Each company creates its own personality models in accordance with its status and the value system on which it bases its development according to the ideals and objectives set in the medium and long term.
So what can we say about the models that our society proposes? Every day we hear about children - at younger and younger ages - arriving in emergency departments in an advanced state of drunkenness, almost in an alcoholic coma. What is the situation and how do we actually position ourselves as a society in terms of exposing minors to alcohol, cigarettes, gambling, etc.?
The sale of alcohol to minors is prohibited, yet in Romania 78% of 16 year olds and 42% of Romanian minors aged 10-12 have consumed alcohol at least once.
The sale of tobacco to minors is banned, yet in Romania, "14.6% of school children aged 13 to 15 currently smoke tobacco, and 70.7% of them say they bought their cigarettes from a shop, i.e. they came from a legal source. Nearly 80% of the children (78.4%) say they have not been prevented from buying cigarettes because of their age, and 39.9% have even been able to buy cigarettes by the piece, although this has been prohibited for more than 10 years!" In the capital there have been cases of children between 6 (six) and 7 (seven) years old!!! consuming ethnobotanicals! Children between 15 and 19 years old are the most important age group in terms of cannabis use onset with a percentage of 49.9%.
The law forbids young people under 18 from entering betting shops, yet 13% of students in Romania have lost money gambling in recent years.
And, unfortunately, the list goes on...
Diageo, the world's largest producer and distributor of alcoholic beverages, has announced the results of a regional survey in Romania, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The 10-question questionnaire is part of the DRINKiQ campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of responsible drinking. So far, the test has been completed by over 8,000 Romanians and 13,000 people in Hungary and the Czech Republic.
The results of the DRINKiQ questionnaire highlight the following interesting findings:
Children and alcohol consumption - 35% Romanians believe that alcohol consumed in small quantities by children can help them become more responsible drinkers in the future. 16% of Czechs and 11% of Hungarians share the same opinion. According to experts, children and teenagers should never drink alcohol. Drinking alcohol at a young age can be very harmful, being associated with negative effects on brain development and increased risk of mental illness, alcohol poisoning, injuries and accidents. A survey carried out by the National Anti-Drug Agency in Romanian schools showed that the percentage of pupils drinking alcohol is worryingly high. 82% of them admitted doing so, and 7% of them also suffered intoxication. The average age at which young Romanians start drinking alcohol, 13, is much lower than the European average. Source www.nonguvernamental.org.
It is good that we are tightening up the existing legislation, but I think it is more important to start implementing it. By the way, when was the last time you heard of a bar or shop being fined or closed for selling cigarettes to children?
As a bitter conclusion, we can say that we are a society that remains impassive when, before our eyes, children fall prey to vices with the most serious consequences. What is more, consciously or not, we are part of the infernal machine that profits from the weaknesses of these children.
So let's stop complaining about children who drink, smoke, take drugs and gamble from a very young age, as long as we encourage them to do these things ourselves.
As long as one out of three Romanians considers it normal for a minor to consume alcohol, the chances of Romanian society getting better are extremely low.
I think po find those guilty of corrupting and misleading young Romanians, all we have to do is look in the mirror. And start to change each one of us individually, so that we can finally change as a society.
