"SAINTS OF PRISONS" FINE ARTS COMPETITION,
5th EDITION, BOTOȘANI, 2022
The "Saint George" Orthodox Theological High School Seminary, through the specialized plastic art teacher, Mrs. Cătălina Felicanu, in partnership with the plastic artist Mrs. Aida Șușter-Boțan, together with Mr. Bogdan Cărăușu, president of the "Botoșani Shield" Association, the Botoșani Children's Palace and the Botoșani County Museum organize: the PLASTIC ART COMPETITION "THE HOLY PRISONERS" with the subject "THE HOLY PRISONERS".
Purpose: The competition aims to attract as many students as possible from schools and high schools in the city of Botosani and Botosani County to learn about the recent history of Romania and develop a sense of belonging to this nation.
Objectives: a. To discover and develop visual skills.
b. Stimulating students' expressiveness and creativity.
c. The aim is to document the subject in order to gain a better understanding of the aspects that shaped the framework of communist prisons. Awareness of the present as an effect of the past.
d. Cultural awareness and artistic expression through visual arts.
e. Valuing constructive experience in approaching artistic creation.
Partners: the Botoșani County School Inspectorate, "Botoșani Shield" Association, Botoșani County Museum, visual education teachers.
The contest is addressed to students from V-VIII and IX-XII classes in the municipality of Botoșani, being structured in four sections and two age groups: a.(V-VIII), b.(IX-XII).
Participants will create works in specific fine art techniques: * 2D working techniques - ink, charcoal, tempera, gouache, watercolour, acrylic colours, oil colours, pastel, coloured chalk, mixed media. *3D working techniques - sculpture or relief (polymer clay, ceramics, plaster, wood, etc.). Size of works: A3, A2, A1 for 2D compositions in colour and maximum 50* cm for 3D compositions and relief. (*variable dimensions for height, length and width)
A maximum of two entries per student is allowed regardless of the technique.
Entries should be sent to the Botosani Children's Palace, 19 Mihail Kogălniceanu Street, 710185, Botoșani (to the attention of Professor Cătălina Felicanu) by 23 May 2022, with the following written on the back of the entry: name and surname of the author, class, educational unit, locality, title of the entry, technique, name and surname of the supervising teacher, contact telephone number.
The works will be judged by a jury of visual artists, a representative of the Orthodox Church, a representative of the "Botoșănean Shield" Association and an iconographer. The judging will be done in two categories: A. students from theoretical schools and high schools and B. students from vocational high schools. The following will be taken into account: respect for the subject matter, originality, strength of the message and ability to convey it, expressiveness, execution of the work, etc.
The work of participants in grades IX-XII must be framed or paspartu for proper display. The work of participants in grades V-VIII will be displayed on boards provided by the organisers.
The best works will be awarded in the above-mentioned categories, as follows: First Prizes, Second Prizes, Third Prizes, First Mentions, Second Mentions, Third Mentions, Participation Diplomas. Prizes worth a total of 1500 lei, including cash prizes and creative materials.
The award ceremony will take place on 2 June 2022 at the Botoșani County Museum, on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition with the most successful works entered in the competition. The time will be announced later.
After the exhibition, participants are asked to pick up the works entered in the competition at the Orthodox Theological High School "St. George" until the end of June 2022.
